Taking God's Healing Love to the Nations

June 26, 2008

God sends some of his people to the mission field...
in order to get through to them!

Dear ones,

Meg Speaking: Before coming to Bolivia, I thought that God had prepared me for this new adventure in a variety of ways, e.g., knowing Spanish, loving Latin America and its people, having been involved in Hispanic Ministry, being retired, etc. I am learning that he's got me here to teach me a lot of things. I think of greatest insight has been realizing how "starved" I have allowed myself to get for God's perspective, and how "fat" I have allowed myself to get in the world's perspective...and then wondered why, when asked to speak to a Women's group, and later to write an article...I had so little in my heart to share, or how confused it all was in my head.

This was taken to the Cross at the conference in Argentina (see the photo to the left) and I am gradually feeding myself the good nutrition of daily time in prayer with the Cross as my focal point, Scripture, fellowship, and books that point me to God's mighty, merciful, and transforming ways. It is good.

In May we attended a conference in Argentina for potential leaders of Living Waters groups which address relational and sexual brokenness. For many years, Bob has desired to offer real restorative help to those who struggle with their sexuality, be it acting out promiscuously, homosexually, or any other of the difficult manifestations of gender brokenness. It was an awesome conference. We are still in the process of discerning the how and when.

In our last newsletter we announced the start-up of La Casa de sanidad y restauracion. This past Saturday we held the first of 2 trainings for potential prayer ministers. We specifically did not put out an "all call" for people to attend this, as Bob believes and has always prayed for the people God chooses for ministries. Our fellow missionary and friend, Betty Colletta, shared awesomely in the teachings. We have already started having prayer ministry appointments and a small men's fellowship group meets here on Wednesday mornings.

Then, about a week ago, both Bob and I served on the Women's Cursillo (the men's had to be postponed due to blockades). I helped with worship and Bob was one of the Spiritual Directors. I can heartily say that Bob has made huge strides with his Spanish. I admire so much the way he walks in the light of God's direction for him every day, despite the difficulties of not speaking your own language!

We are VERY excited about an upcoming seminar in August! The Anglican pastor in Tarija (Bolivia's wine country) works very closely with pastors of other churches in the area and 35 of them have invited Bob, and a team of his forming, to teach on healing prayer and have an all-city evangelism and healing campaign on Saturday night. There is so much potential for God's mighty move there, so we are asking for your prayers. We are thrilled that Fr. Dennis and Elizabeth Kelly of the Community of Christian Family Ministry and Claire Holdsworth from St. Anne's, Oceanside, will be part of the team, along with some Bolivians too who are growing in this ministry. Praise God!

Our last bit of news is about unexpected ministry. The mom shown here is a single mom whose husband left about a year ago "to look for work" and she has not heard from him since. She is raising these darling children, and one older one who has some mental handicaps, by herself so she asked if I had any laundry that she could do. We have been giving her some work and help. Actually many people stop by the house asking for work. It is hard to not be able to help them all.

It is winter here and as you can see by the picture, the mountains have had snow! It was very lovely. Since there is no indoor heating, we bundle up quite a bit in the house. Outside it could be 70 degrees, but inside (after the sun goes down) it is very cold. But we continue to give thanks for this home in this beautiful city and country.

Thank you so much for all of your prayers and support! Bless each and every one of you in Jesus' name.

 Fr. Bob and Meg
