Taking God's Healing Love to the Nations

I am with Bob who was asked to preach and celebrate at Holy Family Church on April 22. We talked about our mission work and request for support.

Meet Meg Jepsen

Let me tell you a little bit about myself. While Bob has been in the ministry, I have been a teacher. That is an all consuming work as is being a mother of our two wonderful sons, Sam who is almost 22 and will graduate from the University at San Diego this June, and Peter, who is 20 and studying at Palomar College. Both have lived away from home for a while now.

But behind the practicalities of married and parental life, has been the thread of desiring to serve in Latin America. More than 20 years ago, Bob and I contacted SAMS (the South American Missionary Society) to explore this call. It was not yet time. Five years ago, we got in touch again, to explore short term missions....thinking we should get our feet wet. As a result, Bob and Peter and I went to Peru for an internship. Together we prayed with families and youth, Peter taught baseball! And Bob taught and ministered inner healing to the seminarians and to a youth retreat. Since then, Bob has made several trips to Bolivia for similar teaching, praying and watching Jesus work life-changing miracles!

Now I have a confession to make! As Bob told you, he prays with people. Now I know what this entails in terms of great faith in our mighty God, and what wonderful results have been experienced. However, recently when asked by my school colleagues what work we will be doing in Bolivia, I felt myself (and heard myself) downplaying the prayer and grasping for a more tangible social action type ministry to say that we'd be doing. I said maybe I'd work at an orphanage! While there is NOTHING wrong with those ministries - they are vital - they are not what we are called to at this point and the realization of what I was doing, made me go back to the Lord and say, "What was I thinking?" What's happening in me?

He brought me back to the scripture that Bob references in our brochure and which has been the guiding light of his ministry: "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because He has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." [Luke 4: 18-19] This is what Jesus came for: His good news to all of us "poor in spirit" is the salvation He gives us...a salvation that is worked out in receiving freedom from the things that bind us, oppress us, wound us and then passing that message on to others.

That is one of the joys of Easter Season: to know that Jesus has passed the baton on to US to do HIS SAME work through the power of the Holy Spirit. That is HUGE and wonderful! Please pray for us that we WILL always seek the power of the Holy Spirit for this work, as well as His provision, protection and abundant fruit for HIS harvest. Thank you!!!
